Expensive = pretty?

It's irritating but it seems to be a fact that most people judge you based on what you wear. A colleague who is NOT handsome, but now wears branded clothes, is being termed by my clients as 'yan dao' (handsome guy). An ex-colleague who always gel his hair and wears Raoul shirts with cuff links is termed 'of-course-handsome'. A female colleague who isn't very pretty (just average) but dresses up in expensive clothes with branded bag and make up and high high heels is termed as 'very pretty'. It seems that what you wear is more important. So does that mean I must get out of my 'auntie' outfits into expensive suits?
